SC summons LNG scam details from NAB

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Tuesday summoned National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Prosecutor General along with record pertaining to the probe in LNG agreement with Qatar.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the petition filed by a citizen seeking alleged corruption in the LNG contract in previous government’s tenure.
During course of proceedings, the petitioner alleged that, the national exchequer cut losses worth billions of dollars due to the contract.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that a representative of the NAB should present in the court and ordered NAB prosecutor to appear before the bench along with investigation details in the matter on next hearing.
Subsequently, the bench adjourned further hearing to date in office.

It may added that during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government's tenure, former petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had signed the LNG contract with Qatar.
As per the contract, Pakistan will be able to purchase LNG from Qatar for the next sixteen years.
