NEW DELHI: Tennis Star Sania Mirza received India’s highest civil award ‘Padma Bhushan’ from Indian President Parnab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
The award was given for her contribution in Tennis.
“Humbled. Honoured. And truly thankful..#Padma Bhushan,” Sania tweeted.
Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis set a record of winning 41 consecutive matches.
They won several titles and three Grand Slam titles that include Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open during their partnership.
Three other tennis players Vijay Amritraj, Ramanathan Krishan and Leander Paes had also received Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri award in 2006.
Bollywood actors Pryanka Chopra and Rajnikanth were also awarded with Padma Bhushan on the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
