A senior commander of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), BaitullahKhan Mehsud, has been killed in Afghanistan, according to his closeassociates and family members.
Baitullah Khan was a long-time militant who operated alongside former TTPleaders Baitullah Mehsud, Waliur Rehman, Sajna, and Hakimullah Mehsud, playing a key role in planning and coordinating terrorist attacks againstPakistan.
His death marks a significant loss for the militant organization, which hasfaced internal rifts and leadership challenges in recent years. Analystssay the killing could further weaken TTP’s command structure and triggera potential power struggle within its ranks.
Security experts believe the elimination of such a senior figure could alsodisrupt coordination between TTP factions operating along thePakistan-Afghanistanborder, where the group has found sanctuary since the fall of Kabul in2021.
While no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack that killedBaitullah Khan, the incident underscores the fragile dynamics of militantnetworks operating in Afghanistan amid increasing pressure from both Afghanand Pakistani authorities.
