Ateeq-ur-Rehman, a wanted commander of the banned Tehreek-e-TalibanPakistan (TTP), also known as Tipugul Marwat, was reported to have beenkilled in Afghanistan. Tipugul Marwat was a fugitive with at least ten FIRsfiled against him under various anti-terrorism laws, including theAnti-Terrorism Act, Pakistan Penal Code, and Explosives Act.
He hailed from the Bachkan Ahmadzai area in Lakki Marwat and had beenevading authorities while staying in Afghanistan. He had been implicated innumerous attacks on security forces, police stations, and checkpoints.
The security experts considered Tipugul’s elimination as a significantsetback for the militant group operating in the district. This developmentwas expected to assist law enforcement agencies in eradicating the remnantsof his group.
Notably, Afghanistan’s Taliban recently claimed to have arrested around 200suspected militants who were involved in carrying out deadly cross-borderattacks against Pakistan.
According to reports, Afghan authorities had taken concrete measures tocounteract terrorist activities and shared details of their crackdown onthe banned TTP during bilateral talks held in Kabul with a high-leveldelegation from Islamabad.
These discussions came in the wake of a tragic incident where four soldierslost their lives while defending two Pakistan Army checkpoints in theKalash area of District Chitral.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported this on September 6,prompting the need for collaborative efforts between Afghanistan andPakistan to address cross-border security concerns.
