Karachi (Staff Report): Italian Consul General Daniela Dainelli in Karachihas stated that the hospitality and generosity of the Pakistani people havedeeply touched her.
She expressed her interest in opening gateways for Pakistani students andmentioned that when applications are sought in Italy for education, thereare very few requests from the students. She encouraged students to comeforward and submit applications for scholarships.
She informed that Italian universities offer programs related to almostall fields for Pakistani students, including tourism, social work, andhospitality.
Additionally, the UK has announced the Chevening Scholarships forPakistanis. Dainelli shared her views in a seminar titled “Italy: ADestination for Education,” held at the Chinese-Teacher’s MemorialAuditorium at the University of Karachi, in collaboration with the Collegeof Arts and Social Sciences.
Professor Dr. Shaista Tabassum, Head of the College of Arts and SocialSciences at the University of Karachi, presented the welcoming address,stating that the purpose of the seminar is to create awareness about theimportance of education and research for students related to variousdisciplines from Italian educational institutions.
She expressed the need to shed light on the numerous opportunities foreducation and employment in Italy for Pakistani students. Dr. ShaistaTabassum further highlighted the cultural richness, diversity, and historyof Italy and emphasized that Italy is not only known for its rich culture,history, and beautiful landscapes but is also home to numerous famousscholars, architects, scientists, philosophers, and researchers.
She appreciated the efforts of the Italian Consulate in Karachi foropening new opportunities for Pakistani students. Dr. Shaista Tabassummentioned that the University of Karachi has already signed a memorandum ofunderstanding with the University of Naples and is in the process ofsigning an MOU with Italy University of Udine.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Professor Dr. Khalid MahmoodIraqi, shed light on the importance of learning the Italian language,stating that learning a language is not only about the language itself butalso about understanding its culture and values.
During the seminar, Pakistani students who have graduated from Italianuniversities, professors, and doctors shared their experiences,enlightening the participants on how to apply to Italian universities andscholarships.
They emphasized the need for Pakistani students to apply to Italianuniversities and highlighted how obtaining an education in Italy can be alife-changing experience.
Additionally, at the seminar in Karachi, a presentation was given by thecoordinator of the Italian Consulate General on the official portals ofItalian universities and how students can apply for admission andscholarships. The seminar concluded with words of thanks by Dr. NaeemAhmad, Chairman of the Department of International Relations.
