Former federal minister Sheikh Rashid lands in hot waters

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued a summons to SheikhRashid Ahmed, the former federal minister and leader of the Awami MuslimLeague (AML), in connection with the National Crime Agency (NCA) £190million Scandal, also known as the Al-Qadir Trust Case. The anti-corruptionwatchdog has directed Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to appear before them on theupcoming Tuesday.

This development follows an earlier incident on May 24 when Sheikh Rashidskipped a scheduled appearance before NAB for questioning regarding the NCA£190 million scandal.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s summons by NAB is tied to his previous role as amember of Imran Khan’s cabinet, which made the decision concerning thesettlement of £190 million from the United Kingdom. The Al-Qadir Trustcase, initially launched by NAB, revolves around allegations against ImranKhan, Bushra Bibi, and others for acquiring significant land holdings underthe guise of Al Qadir University Trust, resulting in a reported loss of 190million pounds to the national exchequer.

These individuals are accused of allegedly facilitating the transfer ofRs50 billion, equivalent to 190 million pounds at the time, from Britain’sNational Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan had established the Trust for the Al-QadirUniversity Project on December 26, 2019. Notably, the NationalAccountability Bureau (NAB) subsequently rebranded the case, formerly knownas the Al-Qadir Trust case, to ‘National Crime Agency £190m Scandal’ aspart of its ongoing investigation into the matter. The summons to SheikhRashid Ahmed adds another layer of intrigue to this complex legal saga
