ISLMABAD – Pakistan takes importnat decision over nuclear programmesecurity, Informs International Atomic Energy Agency over non proliferationaction.
Pakistan has decided to subscribe to the International Atomic EnergyAgency’s Supplementary Guidance on the Management of Disused RadioactiveSources.
In a statement, Foreign office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal saidPakistan has informed the International Atomic Energy Agency about itsdecision.
He said Pakistan’s subscription demonstrates its continued commitment tothe latest international standards in the areas of nuclearnon-proliferation, safety and security.
He said the Code of Conduct, along with its supplementary guidancedocuments, seeks to help countries ensure that radioactive sources are usedin a manner consistent with the highest standards of safety and securitythroughout their life cycle.
The Spokesperson said Pakistan has been voluntarily adhering to the Code ofConduct since 2005 and has put in place all the necessary arrangements andsystems consistent with the recommendations of the Code.
He said that Pakistan has been using radioactive sources in a safe andsecure manner in several peaceful applications, particularly in the fieldsof nuclear medicine and radiation oncology.
