IHC likely to announce verdict against Sharif family in the coming week: Sources

ISLAMABAD – Islamabad High Court is likely to announce the verdict againstSharif family in the next week.

Nawaz Sharif’s counsel, Khawaja Haris, on Wednesday concluded his argumentsbefore the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a petition filed by the jailedprime minister for suspension of the accountability court’s verdict againsthim in the Avenfield properties reference.

A two-member bench of the IHC, comprising Justice Athar Minallah andJustice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb resumed hearing in this case.

Haris argued before the bench that he had not seen the statement of JointInvestigation Team and prosecution’s witness Wajid Zia regarding Avenfieldownership.

Justice Athar Minallah questioned during the hearing that if a dependentever convicted in any case to which Nawaz’ counsel Khawaja Haris said thechildren were never dependent on Nawaz Sharif and there was no such proofon record.

Justice Minuaalh asked if children were also dependent in 1993 to whichKhawaja said the grandfather of children was alive at that time and familyhad a common business.

Khawaja Haris told the court it was written in trial court’s decision thatusually chideren are dependent on their parents so Nawaz Sharif waspossessor of the properties.

Justice Athar remarked if there was any proof that childeren were dependenton Nawaz sharif to which Haris said no such proof was provided.

Haris told the court that the trial court’s decision was based onassumptions.

NAB prosecutor told the court that he would satisfy the judges over thematter.

The court then adjourned the hearing after listening to the arguments ofconvicts.
