SRINAGAR – A fresh wave of fear has forced around 10 Indian Special PoliceOfficers (SPOs) to announce their resignations through Imams of the localmosques in the troubled south Kashmir region.
Local imams of Luraw-Jagir and Pastoona Sayedabad villages in the BurhanWani’s hometown of Tral announced the names of seven local SPOs who haveresigned from the police department, on Friday. Earlier three SPOs haveannounced their resignation through mosques in the area.
Sources said fresh resignations were announced by the Imams during theFriday congregation in Tral area. The Imams named each of the SPOs who havequit their jobs apparently to escape the wrath of the militants.
Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir Dr Shesh Paul Vaid told*DNA* thatthey are verifying the details. “There have been some announcements inmosques, but we are verifying it. We have not received anything formally”,he said.
The resignation also comes against the backdrop of attacks, abductions, andkillings of local policemen and security force officials in south Kashmir.Latest being the attack on two SPOs in Tral on August 6 and August 7injuring one of them
