KARACHI – Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) has unearthed the firstlayer of coal at Thar Coal Block II, at a depth of hundred and forty metersbelow the surface, reported Radio Pakistan.link>

The mining firm’s machinery took out the first layer estimated over twobillion tons of coal resources in Thar Coal Block II five months ahead ofschedule time.

The entire coal production will be supplied to Engro Powergen Thar Limitedwhich starts power generation before the end of this year.

Both these projects are part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)and are being constructed in collaboration with Chinese Contractors.

SECMC Chief Executive Officer Shamsuddin Shaikh has said that thesuccessful extraction of indigenous coal can produce thousands of megawattsof cheap electricity for many decades.
