RAWALPINDI – Pakistan Army has condemned the statements by seniorpoliticians of the country about Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen FaizHameed.
“Peshawar Corps is an illustrious formation of Pakistan Army spearheadingnational war against terrorism for over two decades . One of the mostcompetent and professional officers is entrusted with the responsibility tolead this prestigious formation,” the Inter Services Public Relations(ISPR) said in a statement.
“Imprudent comments made by important senior politicians recently aboutCorps Commander Peshawar are very inappropriate. Such statements underminethe honor and morale of institution and its leadership,” it added.
The military’s media wing said it expected senior politicians to refrainfrom making “objectionable remarks” against the army and its officers.
Soon after the statement, ISPR spokesperson Major General Babar Iftikharwhile talking to a TV channel said that the procedure to appoint new armychief is mentioned in the Constitution and the matter should not bepoliticized.
He said that unnecessary talk about the post of the army chief making itcontroversial, adding that such environment will neither be in the interestof the country nor in the interest of the institution.
He reiterated that army has nothing to do with politics and it should notbe dragged into the political matters.
