Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Monday claimed to have carried out a massiveaerial attack involving 15 drones and 2 ballistic missiles on Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, rebel spokesman Yahya Sarei said the attacks targeted oilrefineries of Saudi oil giant Aramco with 10 explosive-laden Samad-3 drones.
Sarei said the rebel group also attacked Saudi military positions in KhamisMushait and Jazan areas, southwest the kingdom, with 5 Qasef-2K drones and2 Badr-1 missiles.
There has been no comment from Riyadh or the Saudi-led coalition on theHouthi claim.
Iran-aligned Houthi rebels have recently stepped up their rocket and droneattacks on Saudi Arabia.
Yemen has been beset by violence and chaos since 2014, when Houthi rebelsoverran much of the country, including the capital Sanaa. The crisisescalated in 2015 when the Saudi-led coalition launched a devastating aircampaign aimed at rolling back Houthi territorial gains.
According to UN estimates, the conflict in Yemen has so far claimed thelives of at least 233,000 people, with millions more facing starvation andin need of humanitarian assistance.
