Some non state actors causing trouble between Pakistan and Iran borders

ISLAMABAD — Former Pakistani envoy to the International Atomic EnergyAgency (IAEA) says that sometimes non-state actors cause problems onIran-Pakistan border but both countries with their close cooperation caneasily handle such issues.

In an interview with IRNA, Ali Sarwar Naqvi, also Executive Director of theCenter for International Strategic Studies (CISS), said there is noterritorial dispute between Iran and Pakistan.

He said there is only the question of some criminal elements and non-stateactors creating problems between the two countries but that can be easilyhandled by both the governments and I think they should be doing that.

Earlier Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani during a phone conversation withPakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that Iran awaits firmoperation of Islamabad against terrorists who use the Pakistani land tocarry out attacks on Iran.

The Pakistani prime minister, for his part, vowed that his country’sgovernment and army will make every effort to annihilate the terrorists andnot allow them to use the Pakistani soil against the neighboring countries,Iran in particular.

The development came following the February 14 attack near Zahedan inIran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan which martyred 27people.

Ali Sarwar Naqvi, expressing his views, said this is a very gooddevelopment because the leaders at the highest level should always interactwith each other and discuss current problems.

The analyst noted there has been some unhappiness in Iran about the recentterrorist attack which was condemned by the Pakistan government, by thePrime Minister and Foreign Minister.

“So the government of Pakistan has nothing to do with it and therefore thisposition has probably been explained to President Hassan Rouhani by PrimeMinister Imran Khan,” added the expert.

Former ambassador went on to say that Prime Minister Imran Khan is havingthe matter investigated and if anybody involved with that terrorist attackis found in Pakistan will be apprehended and action will be taken againsthim.

He said Iran and Pakistan are two neighbors who do not have any disputebetween them and that is very positive aspect of our relationship.

“What sometimes happen is that some non-stake actors do some kinds ofterrorist activity and cause some problems on border but these are thethings that can be controlled,” he viewed.
