ISLAMABAD – The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet onTuesday approved the Ramzan Relief Package for consumers, worth Rs 2billion to subsidize the prices of daily use items to be provided atUtility Stores Corporation during the holy month of Ramzan.
A meeting of the ECC chaired by Finance Minister Asad Umar discussed atwelve-point agenda including a review of the new postage rates.
The cabinet committee examined a proposal of the Federal Ministry ofIndustries and Production for Ramzan relief package to consumers andapproved it to extend relief to the general public during the upcoming holymonth.
The package will provide four to 50 rupees relief to the consumers atutility stores during the month of Ramzan.
The cabinet committee in previous meeting had approved Rs768.8 millionsupplementary grant to the Ministry of Interior.
The grant will be utilised for different projects initiated by the ministryincluding betterment of security arrangements of the federal capital ande-passport.
The ministry had forwarded recommendations to provide funds for maintenanceof surveillance cameras and purchases of security vehicles for theIslamabad High Court (IHC).
Preparations for construction of an additional terminal of LiquifiedNatural Gas (LNG) at Port Qasim was also reviewed in the meeting.
Asad Umar issued directives for initiation of construction work ofadditional LNG terminal before the commencement of winter season.
