Pakistan likely to buy Russian S – 400 Missile Defence System: International media report

*PANAGYURISHTE, (BM)* – Islamabad is likely to buy Russian S-400 airdefense systems already ordered in series production for India. Such anopinion is creeping into the Russian and Asian media in recent days.Journalist Andrei Belinov wrotelinkaboutthis possibility in the Russian edition of Volga Today, whose idea isalready widely discussed among other media.

Blinov believes that everything is a matter of choice. India place at thepolitical crossroads between Moscow and the West. Last year, in 2020, NewDelhi and Washington signed a key agreement. India and the United Stateshave agreed to participate in joint projects to exchange geospatialinformation and military technology. But before that, in 2018, India agreedto pay Russia nearly $ 5 billion to buy new air defense systems – the S-400.

Blinov suggests that today India is on the same path as Turkey. If itchooses to *“stay”* in the deal and get Russian technology, Washingtoncould impose sanctions on New Delhi. Moreover, like Turkey, India can alsobe excluded from precisely those projects for which both countries signedthe agreement. Washington may deny access to American developments in thefuture.

Russia, in the eyes of the Indians, is a country that sells them weapons. The United States, for its part, is a desirable partner against a futureChinese invasion. For its part, Pakistan is the best solution for Russia –it is at war with India, supported by China, and has long distrusted theUnited States. Blinov believes that this camp could favor Islamabad and thePakistanis to get the most modern air defense systems today.

It’s all a matter of decisions. One of the decisions should be made by theother side – Russia. In recent months, military analysts have begun tospread the view that India has become part of a strategy to deter China. The United States and France, with their influence among Indians, can drivea pole into the wheel of Russian-Chinese friendship. Therefore, experts donot rule out Moscow’s possible to turn to Islamabad with a purchase offer.Pakistan will not refuse, despite the expected US sanctions.Such signals also appeared in the Indian media

Possible US sanctions over the S-400 purchase have worried India. TheIndian newspaper Mint wrote that the multibillion-dollar deal with Russiacould trigger US sanctions on New Delhiq according the US Congress ResearchService (CRS) report.

CRS is an independent, bipartisan research wing of Congress. The CRSreports are not an official report of the US Congress and do not representthe congressmen’s views. Independent experts prepare them to helplegislators make informed decisions.

The document notes that New Delhi “has committed to greater technologyexchange and co-production of initiatives,” while the US is calling forfurther India reforms. The Americans propose concentrating on defensefinancing and imposing higher restrictions on foreign direct investment inthis sector.

The report, prepared for Congress members, warned that New Delhi’smultibillion-dollar deal to buy the Russian S-400 air defense system couldcause US restrictions on India under the Countering America’s AdversariesThrough Sanctions Act.Boeing may play a significant role in relations between Russia and India

India is the largest customer of Russia’s military aircraft industry. TheSu and MiG fighters are at the heart of the Indian Air Force. Thissituation could go on forever until Boeing challenged its technology andadapted it to India’s needs.

It is an F-18 Super Hornet, which faces the Russian MiG29K in the battlefor the Indian Navy. New Delhi will soon have its aircraft carrier. India’snew pride will have to have 4th generation fighters to take off and land ona smaller runway than standard. And also – the track is in the form of aski trench.

MiG-29K has no problems with such requirements, and it is designed for thistype of aircraft carrier. But Boeing holds on to the Indian market. In thesummer, he managed to outrun himself, and the local Boeing branch conductedsuccessful take-off and landing tests on a smaller runway in the form of aski trench. We even posted this video.

The United States has struck at Russia’s ambitions. As a monopolist, theMiG-29K has found itself in a market where its main advantage is no longerthe case. Suddenly, Boeing’s chances have increased several times, playinga significant role in New Delhi and Washington’s future relationship. Butnot only on these – India’s friendship with Russia is seriously threatened. And if Russia sided with China, Russia’s S-400 systems could indeed fallinto Pakistan’s hands.
