US lawmakers reject President Donald Trump claims over Iranian General assassination

ISLAMABAD – US lawmakers have rejected US President Donald Trump new claimthat US assassinated General Qassem Soleimani because he was planning anattack on four American embassies.

Several US lawmakers and officials have dismissed President Donald Trump’snew claim the US assassinated Iranian Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimanibecause he was planning an attack on four American embassies in the region,including the one in Iraq.

In an interview on Friday, Trump said Iran probably had targeted the USembassy in Baghdad and was aiming to attack four US embassies when itkilled Soleimani.

“We will tell you probably it was going to be the embassy in Baghdad,”Trump claimed. “I can reveal that I believe it would have been fourembassies.”

The previous day, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said that the USdidn’t have information about specific targets, only that attacks wereimminent. “We don’t know when, we don’t know where,” he said.

But two unnamed senior officials, including one in the Defense Department,said that they were aware only of vague intelligence about a plot againstthe embassy in Baghdad.
