Indian Army inducts new lethal weapons in Occupied Kashmir for counter terrorism operations

NEW DELHI -Indian Army inducts new lethal weapons in Occupied Kashmir forcounter terrorism operations .

Indian Army has started inducting 1st batch of 10,000 Sig Sauer assaultrifles for counter-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir, sources toldANI.

It may be recalled that Defence Ministry had signed a contract on February12, 2019 to procure 72,400 7.6mm Sig Sauer assault rifles under fast-trackprocedures to equip the armed forces with more capable guns. It is learntthat the cost of the deal was approximately Rs 700 crore.

The induction of the US-made assault rifles will play an important role inmodernising the armed forces. The Sig Sauer assault rifles are alreadybeing used by armed forces in the US and several European countries.

The need for Sig Sauer assault rifles was repeatedly pitched in view ofevolving security threats from both Pakistan and China.

The Indian armed forces are presently equipped with 5.56*45 mm INSAS Rifleand Sig Sauer assault rifles, which is compact, robust and modern intechnology will replace INSAS rifle.
