ISLAMABAD – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a surprise gift toChinese President Xi Jinping during his informal visit to India today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Nachiarkoil, a six-feet Annam lamprichly coated with gold and a three-feet high Thanjavur painting of dancingSaraswathi to Chinese President Xi Jinping at the second informal summitbetween the two leaders in Tamil Nadu’s Mahabalipuram on Friday.
The lamp, exclusively made in Tamil Nadu’s Nachiarkoil town by a localcommunity called Pathers, has a round base decorated with beautifulpatterns. It has a slender and intricately-designed ornamental stem withbranches taking off at three levels.
At the top of the stem is a bowl of five spouts for wicks to light thelamp. Above the lamp is the ‘Annam’, a celestial bird that is reputed to beable to separate milk from water and figuratively good from the bad.
The lamp is made up of bronze and is resplendently gold-coated, thelampstands are six-feet-tall, weighs 108 kilograms and took 12 days to becompleted. At the top of the stem is a bowl with five spouts for wicks tolight the lamp. The branches extend to hold 24 bowls with 120 spouts forplacing wicks.
