ISTANBUL: Eight civilians were killed and 35 injured in a mortar attack byKurdish forces on a Turkish border town on Friday, the local governor´soffice said.
The attack hit the town of Nusaybin in Mardin province, according to theofficials, quoted by Turkish agencies DHA and Anadolu.linklink
The attack comes two days after Turkey launched a military offensive onKurdish forces in northern Syria.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Wednesday the start of the attackon Twitter and soon after jets and artillery targeted Kurdish positionsalong the full width of the border, sending thousands of civilians fleeingtheir homes.
That was followed late in the evening by the beginning of a groundoperation, the Turkish defence ministry said.
