Ali Wazir bail plea verdict announced by ATC Court

An anti-terrorism court situated in Islamabad has approved the bail requestof Ali Wazir, a former legislator and co-founder of the Pashtun TahafuzMovement (PTM). This decision pertains to a fraud case that had beenregistered at the Bara Kahu police station in the federal capital.

Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided overthe proceedings on Monday, during which he carefully reviewed the bailpetition submitted by the former Member of the National Assembly (MNA).Ultimately, the judge granted bail to Mr. Wazir, with the condition that heprovide surety bonds amounting to Rs20,000.

Ali Wazir, a prominent figure within the PTM, found himself in legaltrouble alongside human rights advocate Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir when theywere apprehended by Islamabad police on August 20. The reason for theirarrest was stated as being “for investigation.” It’s important to note thatprior to their detention, both individuals had actively participated in apublic rally organized by the PTM within the federal capital.

These arrests, however, did not go unnoticed or unchallenged, sparkingwidespread condemnation from local and international human rightsorganizations, as well as political leaders and activists who voiced theirconcerns through various social media platforms.
