Pakistan’s Military Industrial Complex to be revamped for enhanced defence exports

The government is planning a number of new initiatives for the revival ofPakistan’s military-industrial complex that was impacted by the coronaviruspandemic.

Last month, the Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) issued a detailedreport highlighting new policies for defense production and offsets. Theministry is also eyeing a complete internal restructuring to make theproduction unit ‘more efficient and viable.’——————————

The ministry is also looking to secure private sector investments indefense manufacturing.

Pakistan’s most prominent state-owned defense enterprises will also bereorganized and given greater independent control, the report said.

In line with government targets, the ministry is committed to supportingthe development of an internationally competitive defense production sector.

These decisions, it says, are triggered by the growing requirements tolocally source the needs of armed forces, increase employmentopportunities, and reduce foreign reliance for defense products.

The ministry said it has prepared the policy draft, outlining manufacturingcapabilities and targets, which will be released soon following finalchanges and approval. Moreover, the offset policy is also in the finalstages and has been shared with stakeholders for feedback.
