NEW DELHI – Survey ranks India fifth-most dangerous country in the worldfor foreigners, according to a report released by Inter Nations, a leadingnetwork for guidance to expats around the world.
In the survey – Expat Insider Survey 2019- India has been placed at 60 of64 countries on safety and security.
According to the survey it has been found that over four in ten respondentsreported negative feelings about the peacefulness in India and 27% weredispleased with their personal safety — three times the global average of9%.
“A US American expat, for example, does not like “always having to keep myguard up — as a female, I don’t feel safe. As a resident, I often feeltaken advantage of at work and outside work,” the survey said.
In a recent wave of attacks on foreigners in India,numerous reports oftourists being raped have startled those visiting the Hindu-majoritycountry, with some even pursuing civil cases in Indian courts to bring theperpetrators to justice.
The expats also rated negatively to the question of political stability inIndia. “Almost double the global average (32% vs 17% worldwide) rate thepolitical stability of the country negatively. An Australian expat sharesthat ‘politics has become hardline, and there are social tensions’,” thesurvey found. .
Albeit, grave concerns were expressed with reference to security andpolitical instability in the report ,health and cleanliness concerns areamong other parameters where India has bee rated poorly.The poor ratingsfor health can mainly be attributed to the quality of the environment,which is rated negatively by more than eight in ten expats (83% vs only 20%globally).
India has been placed at 63 out of 64 for leisure options and 60 out of 64for health and well-being.
Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria and Argentina are other countries that areranked very unsafe for expats. The survey has covered and interviewedpeople who live and work abroad to research the topic
