ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday assured that the FederalGovernment would provide additional resources required for the uplift ofthe tribal areas, besides playing an effective role for allocation ofdevelopment package meant for the areas out of the National FinanceCommission (NFC) Award.
The prime minister was chairing a high level meeting on the merger oftribal areas (Federally Administered Tribal Areas).
The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance Asad Umar, Minister forLaw and Justice Dr Farogh Naseem, Minister for Religious Affairs NoorulHaq, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman and Chief Minister MahmoodKhan, Advisor to PM Shahzad Arbab, and related federal & provincialsecretaries and officials, the PM Office media wing in a press release said.
The meeting took stock of the progress on the merger of the tribal areasand different administrative and legal measures taken in that regard.
Important decisions over the merger of the tribal areas and protection ofthe rights of the tribal people were also taken.
The prime minister stressed upon ensuring the implementation of the newsystem aimed at merger of tribal areas while keeping in view the prevalenttraditions and rituals of the tribesmen.He underlined the need for consultation of the tribesmen overimplementation of the new system. Employment opportunities for the youth ofthe areas should be ensured and no one should be made jobless as result ofthe administrative measures, he added.The specific quota for the tribal people in the educational institutes anduniversities should not be affected, he advised.
The prime minister also emphasized upon expediting the efforts forintroduction of the local government system in the areas. For consultationand seeking feed back of the tribal people with regard to the progress andprosperity of the areas, the swift introduction of local government systemwas a requisite, he observed.
He also underscored the need to accelerate efforts for improving theconditions in the areas of health, education and especially in thoseeducational institutes imparting education to children.
The mechanism for speedy and inexpensive justice should also be evolved, henoted.
