Afghan government installed new Air Defence system in capital Kabul to thwart missile attack

The Afghan government on Sunday said it has installed and activated a new airdefense link system in the capitalKabul to thwart any rocket and missile strikes.

“It is the most used system in the world for repelling rockets andmissiles,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement, asserting that Afghansecurity forces are ready to defend their people and territory at any cost.

Surrounded by tall, rocky mountains, the capital of landlocked Afghanistanhas been prone to rocket attacks throughout its modern turbulent history.

Multiple magnetic bomb blasts and rocket attacks rocked Kabul on Nov 21,2020, killing at least eight people and injuring over 30.

Earlier, multiple rockets hit the highly guarded diplomatic enclave duringIndependence Day celebrations. According to the ministry, at least 10people were injured in 14 rockets fired from two cars.

The attack forced disruption in the live telecast by the state broadcasterRTA of the high-profile celebrations.
