*KARACHI: All coastal areas of Pakistan, including Karachi, are out ofdanger from a cyclone developing in the Arabian Sea, the PakistanMeteorological Department (PMD) said on Monday.*
The Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre of met office said that thelow-pressure area in the East Arabian Sea has turned into a depression andlay centred around Latitude 11.7N and Longitude 71.0E, at a distance ofabout 1500 km south of Karachi.
“The system is likely to move initially north/northwest-ward and strengthenfurther into a tropical cyclone during the next 36 hours,” it said in astatement.
“Currently none of Pakistan coastal areas is under threat from this system.”
The met office has advised the fishermen of Sindh coastal belt to remainalert and not to venture in deep sea.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has advised authorities andstakeholders to remain abreast of the updates about the cyclonic activity.
