SRINAGAR – Militants on Friday attacked a guard post in Budgam district ofOccupied Jammu and Kashmir, triggering a gunfight with security forces inwhich a policeman was critically injured, a police official said. The cop,Shamim Ahmad, later succumbed to his injuries, news agency *ANI* reported.
Hundreds of such attacks have taken place in occupied Kashmir in recentmonths, where Indian Military and Paramilitary forces officers and soldiershave been killed by locals asking for freedom from India.
He said the militant attack on the post at Wardwan in Soibug area ofcentral Kashmir was repulsed.
However, he said, a policeman was critically injured and has been admittedto a hospital. All arms and ammunition there are safe, the official said,adding the area has been cordoned off.ADVERTISEMENT
There have been several such attacks recently when militants attempted tosnatch rifles from the policemen on duty.
Thousands of Indian Military soldiers have been killed in occupied Kashmirsince the freedom struggle erupted in the valley in 1989.
