Indian Army Chief reaches Occupied Kashmir as Forces struggle to end operation after 36 hours

SRINAGAR: The Indian Army operation against the attackers of the MilitaryCamp has entered the second day as security forces including the Indian AirForce Commandos are struggling to end the operation.

Indian army chief General Bipin Rawat arrived in Indian occupied Jammutoday and met senior commanders as an operation against a ‘militantattack’at an army camp entered itssecond day.

Indian authorities said five soldiers and one civilian were killed in theongoing military operation against attackers holed up near the residentialquarters inside the Sunjuwan Army Camp, according to reports in the Indianmedia.

Around 11 people, including civilians, are said to be injured in theattack, which also claimed the lives of at least four attackers, accordingto the Indian media.[image: an image]

Earlier, it was reported that in the early hours of Saturday, a group ofheavily armed militants attacked the sprawling camp of the 36 brigade ofJammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, leading to a gunbattle which left twoarmy officials dead.

The attack coincides with the fifth death anniversary ofAfzal Guru, hangedfor his alleged role in the2001 Parliament attack in New Delhi, as well astoday’s death anniversary of Maqbool Butt, another liberation fighterhanged in 1984.

A complete shutter-down strike is being observed in the occupied valleytoday with regard to Butt’s death anniversary.
