Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman spoke with Palestine's President Mahmoud Abbas to address the intensifying situation in Gaza. During the conversation, the Saudi crown prince assured President Abbas of Saudi Arabia's support for the legitimate rights of Palestinians and the pursuit of lasting peace in the region.

He emphasized that Saudi Arabia is actively engaging with international and regional stakeholders to make every effort to halt the ongoing escalation and prevent its spread in the area. He stressed the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law and avoiding harm to civilians.

Following his discussion with President Abbas, Mohammad bin Salman also contacted Egypt's president and Jordan's Shah Abdullah to collaborate on a strategy for de-escalation.

In a separate development, an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) failed to take concrete action in response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. This conflict began when Palestinian fighters launched a surprise attack on Israeli border towns, prompting Israel to respond with deadly airstrikes in Gaza, resulting in a death toll of 1,100.

According to diplomats, the United States called for all 15 Council members to issue a statement strongly condemning "these heinous terrorist attacks committed by Hamas." However, not all members of the Council agreed with this request.
