Bill Gates impressed with Pakistan's transformation towards digitalisation

LAHORE – Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) chairman Dr Umar Saif called on Microsoft founder Bill Gates on Thursday.

Dr Saif said that he felt “great to share how we have used technology and data to improve immunization coverage, eradicate dengue and improve healthcare in Pakistan”.

Mr. Gates also appreciated the efforts made in technology in the South Asian country, saying that he has never seen such rapid transformation using technology anywhere in the world.

The PITB is an autonomous body set by the government of Punjab and provides the foundation for Punjab’s innovation economy. The board aims at not only modernizing the governance techniques through transparency induced methods but also at increasing the digital literacy of the citizens among many other services.

Dr Umar Saif, a Pakistani computer scientist and academic, has been the vice-chancellor of the Information Technology University since January 2013 and the chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board since November 2011.
