PARIS: The Euro 2016 football championship kicks off in France amid high security and terror threats.
The first match will be played between teams of France and Romania in Paris at 19:00 GMT.
At least 90,000 police personnel have been deployed to protect participants as Paris was recently targeted by ISIS that killed more than 130 people and left hundreds wounded.
Paris is currently passing through a strike of public service to secure the championship.
Francis President Hollande claimed to take every possible measure to ensure the smooth running of the euro championship.
“I will be paying close attention… and if decisions need to be made, they will be made, they will be made,” Hollande said.
“Public services will be provided… The whole Europe will be watching,” he added.
