NEW DELHI: US Defence Secretary Ash Carter arrived in India on a three days official visit that kicked off in Goa.

Carter will meet his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar and will discuss the Indo-US strategic ties to boost their defence cooperation.

Both leaders will hold talks on Communications and Information Security Memorandum of Agreement (CISMOA), Logistic Support Agreement (LSA) and Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA).

Carter said “It has (India trip) to take some very important new steps and to implement what the President (Obama) and the prime minster (Modi) agreed last year and the (defence) framework (agreement) that I signed with minister Parrikar last year.”

It is considered that Indo-US defence cooperation will promote technology transfer to the country.

Parrikar claimed that transfer of technology under Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) for aircraft carrier would be the special agenda of the talks.

He said “There are many important issues to be discussed. India wants to establish best defence cooperation with US. Many issues of importance will be finalized in the bilateral talks in Delhi.”

The official talks would take place on April 12 in New Delhi.

Carter will also meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold talks about aircraft carrier and fighter jets manufacturing plant in India.
