Pakistan FM Qureshi takes a strong stand over the Afghanistan peace process in Istanbul conference

ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi says peace and stabilityin Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s own interest.

Talking to media in Istanbul, Turkey, he said Pakistan deems thatestablishment of peace in Afghanistan will lead to more bilateral tradebetween Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He said Pakistan will have opportunities of investment, reconstruction, andinfrastructure development in Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan has played a positive role in holding oftalks between the US and Taliban in Doha and this contribution is beinghailed by the world.

He said the international community is also appreciative of Pakistan forclearing its side of the border from terrorists.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan has created internal political consensusregarding its tribal belt and merged it into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said the incumbent government has allocated a special financial packagefor the development of erstwhile FATA to remove the sense of deprivationand poverty from the area.

He said Pakistan made it clear at the Heart of Asia Conference thatIslamabad cannot make efforts in Afghan peace process alone and the worldshould come forward to play its role in this regard.
