Massive protests held across India over controversial Anti Muslim nationality Bill

NEW DELHI – Massive protests held across India over controversial AntiMuslim nationality Bill.

In India, hundreds of demonstrators closed down streets in northeasternIndia today in protest of a controversial legislation regarding citizenshipright to minorities who immigrated to the country illegally.

According to reports, protesters blocked traffic across the state of Assam,including in the state capital Gauhati, by burning tires and sitting onroads. Shops and businesses closed and several vehicles were vandalized.

The protesters have burned effigies of leaders of the ruling BharatiyaJanata Party including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister AmitShah and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The shutdown was organized by the North East Students Organization, anassociation of student groups from across India’s eight northeastern states.
