National Accountability Court (NAB) has received endorsement from anAccountability Court for freezing the bank accounts of two Chinesecompanies involved in investment scams.
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) had originallycomplained to NAB after which an investigation was conducted. NAB foundthat Chinese companies were involved in scamming the public.
Earlier this year in March, Director General NAB Karachi had ordered tofreeze a total of nine bank accounts linked with the two companies. NAB hadalso lodged a complaint in the Accountability Court under Section 12 (c) ofthe NAB Ordinance 1999.
During the recent hearing of the case, Mukesh Kumar, Accountability Court’sJudge, observed that no objections have been received on NAB’s complaint,endorsing NAB’s decision to freeze the bank accounts.
Three bank accounts are owned by the two companies; Gold Transmit NetworkTechnology (Pvt) Ltd and Green Applelink Super Market (Pvt) Ltd. Theremaining accounts are owned by Chinese nationals.
Previously, NAB’s Investigation Officer (IO) in the case had informed theAccountability Judge that the notices issued to the accused Chineseindividuals have also been sent to the Directorate General (DG) of theChinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will forward them to theconcerned individuals.
