The Indian embassy has initiated the visa issuance process for Pakistanijournalists interested in covering the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 inIndia.
According to sources, the Indian High Commission has reached out to thesejournalists, urging them to submit their passports promptly for visaprocessing. It’s worth noting that visas for the Pakistan team were grantedjust 48 hours before their departure for India, marking their first tour ofthe country since the T20 World Cup in 2016.
Last week, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed disappointment overthe visa delay, as it had placed significant pressure on the board. The PCBemphasized the importance of Pakistani journalists and fans being able toobtain Indian visas for ICC World Cup coverage, as their presence enhancesthe stadium atmosphere and contributes to global coverage and appreciationof the game.
The PCB has been actively reminding the ICC about its obligations and theagreement regarding visa issuance for fans and journalists over the pastthree years and continues to raise concerns with relevant authorities.Pakistan has started its campaign with a convincing victory over theNetherlands and is set to face Sri Lanka in their second World Cup clashtoday (Tuesday).
