Ben Stokes is expected to be absent from Tuesday’s match againstBangladesh. However, England captain Jos Buttler’s primary concern revolvesaround the Dharamsala outfield, which he believes is suboptimal for ICCCricket World Cup 2023 games.
The condition of the outfield has been questioned by former Englandcricketer and current Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott, particularlyafter spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman narrowly avoided injury by hurting his kneeon the sandy surface.
Although the International Cricket Council (ICC) has granted the outfieldan “average” rating, permitting it to host World Cup matches, concernsregarding player safety during fielding persist.
Jos Buttler expressed his dissatisfaction, stating, “In my own opinion,it’s subpar. When you have to be cautious about diving or fielding due tothe surface, it contradicts our team’s ethos.”
He further added, “So, the outfield’s current condition is far from ideal, but we won’t use it as an excuse; instead, we’ll adapt to it.”
