ISLAMABAD – Pakistan on Thursday said that India must accept the fact that”India-Pakistan Question” will remain on the agenda of UN Security Council, till the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per the relevant UNSecurity Council Resolutions.
Addressing weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign OfficeSpokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said the only way India can get theJammu and Kashmir dispute off the UN Security Council agenda is by lettingthe Kashmiris exercise their inalienable right to self-determinationthrough a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices.
He said the international community must play its role in making Indiacomply with its obligations under international law, UN Charter and therelevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
Regarding the latest incidents at the China-India border, the Spokespersonsaid Pakistan has been repeatedly emphasizing that India s expansionist, and unilateral actions, particularly since 5 August last year, have beenimperiling regional peace and security.
Chaudhri said the latest situation at the China-India border areasvalidates Pakistan s concerns and demonstrates that India s belligerenceremains a major impediment in resolving the issues at its borders, addingthat we believe that it is imperative that China-India border issues areresolved in line with agreed understandings and bilateral agreementsthrough established mechanisms and peace and tranquility is maintained inthe region.
Responding to a question, the spokesperson said Pakistan strongly condemnsIndian Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat’s provocative statementagainst Pakistan, adding that such belligerent statements from seniormilitary leadership of India provide insight into how the BJP-RSS mindset-a dangerous mix of extremist ideology, hegemonic ambitions and obsessionwith Pakistan has permeated Indian state institutions.
He said unfortunately, the Indian government, in response to anygeopolitical, economic or military setback, instead of learning from itsmistakes and instituting course correction, simply doubles down on itsmiscalculation and bellicose rhetoric.
“India’s defense capabilities have been embarrassingly exposed to the worldnot far ago, adding that General Rawat would be better served to focus onhis job rather than making pointless accusations against peacefulneighbors. Such belligerent rhetoric has accomplished nothing for Indiaother than conflict and humiliation,” he said.
Zahid Hafeez said rather than whipping up anti-Pakistan sentiments, theIndian leadership should focus on peaceful resolution of outstandingdisputes, particularly the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per internationallaw and the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions.
