*ISLAMABAD* – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to arrive inIslamabad for a two-day visit on August 20–21 to participate in thePakistan-China Strategic Dialogue. The high-level meetings will focus ondeepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including economicdevelopment, defense collaboration, regional stability, and security.
During his visit, Wang Yi is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister ShehbazSharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. A key agenda item will be theprogress and future trajectory of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC), a cornerstone of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and acritical infrastructure lifeline for Pakistan.
The visit comes at a significant moment in the region’s geopoliticallandscape. It marks Wang Yi’s first trip to Pakistan following India’srecent missile strike on Pakistani territory, an incident that has raisedfresh concerns over regional security and the risk of escalation betweenthe nuclear-armed neighbors.
Wang’s arrival follows his July meeting in Beijing with Pakistan’s Chief ofArmy Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. That meeting reaffirmed the twonations’ “ironclad” strategic partnership, signaling strong military anddiplomatic alignment amid shifting regional dynamics and growing globalcompetition.
Officials in Islamabad view the upcoming visit as an opportunity toreinforce the time-tested friendship between the two countries and to charta course for stronger collaboration in light of shared strategic interests.The dialogue is also expected to cover joint efforts to combat terrorismand promote peace in Afghanistan and the broader South Asian region.
