LONDON – In the aftermath of Avenfield reference verdict, the protestagainst ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif has continued on second day inLondon.
According to details, large number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)supporters gathered outside Nawaz Sharif’s house and chanted slogansagainst him.
On the occasion, a scuffle was also erupted between Pakistan MuslimLeague-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and PTI activists that further intensified theprotest.
Afterwards, London police took PML-N’s Nasir Butt and two protesters intocustody for disturbing law and order situation.
On Friday, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawazwere sentenced to prison in absentia for ten years, seven years and oneyear respectively, in a verdict that is likely to further disrupt analready chaotic campaign for national elections this month.
The sentence and a fine of 8 million pounds, or $10.6 million, came almosta year after Supreme Court removed Sharif from office and less than fivemonths after the court barred him from holding office for life.
The case stemmed from the Panama Papers leak that disclosed expensive andundeclared property owned by the Sharif family in London.
