NEW DELHI – Indian muslim cricketer Mohammad Kaif was termed traitor andslammed and brutally trolled on social media after the former Indiacricketer praised Pakistan. India’s arch-rivals had chased down a recordscore in the final of a T20I tri-series against Australia in Zimbabwe onSunday.
Kaif, the hero of India’s historic Natwest Series triumph in England 16years ago, had last played for the country in 2006. However, he has sincebeen active with media duties and is a regular on social media with hisviews.
Like every ardent cricket fan and supporter, Kaif kept track of thePakistan-Australia final in Harare.
Opener Fakhar Zaman smashed a career-best 91 from 46 balls as Pakistandefeated Australia by six wickets in a record run chase to lift thetri-series trophy at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe on Sunday.
Kaif, obviously impressed with a fine display tweeted to congratulatePakistan.
However, trolls were quick to pick up on the Indian cricketer.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat on a flat track in the final,posting 183 for eight in their 20 overs with the innings anchored by openerD’Arcy Short’s stylish 76 from 53 balls.
Pakistan were in trouble early on in their reply as they lost their firsttwo wickets with just two runs on the scoreboard.
But Zaman launched a ferocious counter-attack with an innings that included12 fours and three sixes, bringing up his half-century in 30 balls.
Pakistan, who top the global rankings in Twenty20 cricket, won the gamewith four balls to spare to secure victory in the final of the series thatalso involved hosts Zimbabwe.
