*ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to go tough on the international NGOsworking in Pakistan against the national interest and without governmentpermission.*
The Islamabad police have been ordered to shut down operations ofeleven international non-government organisations (INGOs) after theinterior ministry denied them permission to function in the country,* reportedlink>* alocal English newspaper.
The senior superintendent of police, in a letter, has ordered all fourzonal superintendents of police to shut down the operations of these INGOs.
The letter said that these organisations applied for the registration withthe interior ministry which was rejected. The police officers were asked toclose these down if they are still working in their areas and to submit awritten report to the office of SSP.
Four of these INGOs are based in the UK, two are from the US, one each fromChina, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Pakistan.
