In a first, Pakistan launches mobile consular services for expats

ISLAMABAD – Pakistani expatriates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) willnot have to travel to Dubai anymore for their document-related issues asthe Pakistani Consulate has launched an outreach program for them.

Now, the Pakistani Consulate will provide consular services to thePakistani community in the emirates.

“We will conduct visits in different emirates to provide consular servicesto the community members in the emirate of their residence,” said AhmadAmjad Ali, newly-appointed Consul General of Pakistan in Dubai.

He said a team of officers and staff would visit Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah,and Fujairah once a week, adding that they have decided to facilitate thecommunity on Fridays so that the maximum number of people can avail thisopportunity on their off day.

He said the initiative was part of his plan to make the process easier forblue-collar workers who had to travel to Dubai for even a minor issue.

“The aim is to cater to community members who cannot come to the consulatedue to their work schedule,” he added.

The mobile consulate teams will help expats in their issues related toNational Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis, passports, outpasses(temporary travel document), attestation of documents, and also communitywelfare services.

He said the visits are initially planned for once a week for every emiratementioned above, adding that the visits can be increased depending on thedemand.

Mr. Ahmad Amjad said the consulate has also launched social media handleson Facebook and Twitter to maximize the interaction with the Pakistanicommunity in UAE.

“We would soon introduce emergency numbers to provide 24/7 emergencyservices to the community,” Ali added.
