NEW DELHI – Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat visited Western Commandheadquarters responsible for border security along Pakistan and reviewedthe operational preparedness.
He was updated on the current operational situation, prevailing securityenvironment and preparedness, especially in Amritsar and Samba sectors.
This year till the Pulwama attack on February 14, there were a total of267 ceasefire violations incidents till date.
General Rawat, during his visit at Western Command headquarters, interactedwith the officers. “He was briefed and updated on the current operationalsituation, prevailing security environment and preparedness of theformations, especially in Amritsar and Samba Sectors,” an Army statementsaid.
General Rawat expressed his complete confidence in the capabilities of theIndian Army to thwart any nefarious designs to destabilise any situation.
He also praised high state of morale of troops and instructed them toremain prepared for all eventualities, in close coordination with the AirForce.
In Pulwama attack on February 14 this year, 40 Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) personnel lost their lives. Thereafter, there was escalatedskirmishes between India and Pakistan at the border with both the nationfiring including heavy artillery.
Further, forces in Jammu and Kashmir has intensified anti-terror operationsas after the Pulwama attack, 16 militants have been killed and beforePulwama attack, 28 militants were killed.
Witnessing the tensed situation at the border, General Rawat has alsovisited forward locations in Jammu and Kashmir to assess preparedness onthe ground and also the enemy threat. Last week, he had visited theNagrota-based White Night Corp.
