Pakistan Foreign Minister SM Qureshi breaks silence on the quiet diplomacy with China over Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang

*ISLAMABAD – **Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah MEHMOOD Qureshi breakssilence over the ‘quiet diplomacy’ with China over Uighur Muslims inXinjiang. *

*Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Monday that hisgovernment was using “quiet diplomacy” to express its concerns over thetreatment of Uighur Muslims in China’s Xinjiang province.*

It is not necessary to condemn everything publicly, the Pakistani foreignminister said, while speaking at a ceremony at the Institution of BusinessAdministration in Karachi.

Exiled Uighur activists in November 2019 released evidence of nearly 500camps and prisons being used against the ethnic group in China, saying theoverall number of inmates could be “far greater” than the one millionusually cited.

Beijing initially denied their existence when news of these camps firstemerged in 2017.

Later, it claimed they were “voluntary” vocational centres aimed atcombating extremism by teaching people Mandarin and job skills.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government has been reluctant to comment onalleged human rights violations in China.
