LAHORE – Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will follow the distancelearning model of Open University of United Kingdom to enhance itscredibility and academic standard.
The Open University of UK was first one in the world introducing opendistance learning system in 1969.
This was announced by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Zia-Ul-Qayyum whileaddressing a reception given in his honour by the Employees WelfareAssociation (EWA).
Its credibility and quality of education are well recognized worldwide andthe AIOU was the first in Asia wishes to work on the same pattern so thatits degrees and certificates get due importance.
The university will bring into practice new technology in educationalpursuits for achieving the ultimate target of quality education.
The process of automation and introduction of ‘State of the Art’ technologyin admission, examination and other sectors will be completed within aperiod one and half year.
Elaborating his priorities and policies to be followed during hisfour-years’ tenure, Dr Zia-Ul-Qayyum said the betterment of the employeesand improving the university’s reputation and integrity would be his mainfocus.
Responding to points raised in the welcome address by the EWA’s PresidentSajid Janjua, he said that he would always be open-hearted for improvingtheir working conditions and providing them with their due rights.
While urging the employees to show dedication and commitment in their work,he said any wrong-doing will not be spared.
Dr Zia-ul-Qayyum assured the contractual and daily wages’ employees will begiven preference in recruitment and while filling the vacant posts.
He assured them that the residential facilities in the university’spremises would be expanded.
Improving the contents’ delivery system will be another priority area. Allcurrent university’s tutors will be de-registered this year and they haveto meet a fresh appointment’s criteria.
The purpose of the revision of tutors’ appointments’ system will beimproved the evaluation and assessment mechanism in the teaching process.
President EWA, Janjua assured the VC his all-out support in the developmentof the university, enhancing its reputation and credibility among thepeople.
