PTI government takes important decision over sedition case against Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided not to pursue a case against ex-PM Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N members on charges of sedition. The decision was made during a meeting of the federal cabinet.

According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan and his ministers including Shireen Mazari and Fawad Ch were of the view that such moves are a violation of the rule of constitution. However, PM adviser Shehzad Akbar and Law Minister Barrister Farogh suggested the case should be pursued.

Earlier the government clarified the case against Nawaz for delivering provocative speeches from London “to defame Pakistan’s institutions” was not filed on behalf of the state.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Lahore police said that a first information report (FIR) against the ex-premier and other senior PML-N leaders including Azad Kashmir’s PM Raja Farooq Haider was lodged on the complaint of a citizen.
