NA passes bill to support victims of acid attacks

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday passed The Acid and Burn Crime Bill, 2017.

It was moved by Federal Minister Marvi Memon.

Speaking on the occasion, Marvi Memon thanked the government and the opposition benches for supporting the important bill. She said the purpose of the bill is to support the victims and bring to justice the culprits at the earliest.

The bill offers free medical treatment and rehabilitation for acid burn victims. It also outlines a process for conducting trials of accused in the shortest possible time.

Other bills that were passed today included: The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) bill, The National Civic Education Commission Bill, the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) bill, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Amendment) bill and Pakistan Bait ul Mal (Amendment) bill 2017, Islamabad Capital Territory Prohibition of Employment of Children Bill, Institute of Science and Technology Bahawalpur Bill, 2018 and Sir Syed Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering Institute of Technology Islamabad Bill, 2016.

The house also passed a resolution extending the period of CDA Amendment Ordinance 2018 for a further period of one hundred and twenty days.

The house also passed The Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill.

The house has now been adjourned to meet again tomorrow morning at ten thirty. AP
