ISLAMABAD – Chinese President Xi Jinping to confer highest science award toeminent Pakistani scientist Dr Atta-ur-Rehman.
Eminent Pakistani scientist, Professor Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, will beconferred upon the highest scientific award of China for his contributionsin the field of Chemistry.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will confer the ‘China International Scienceand Technology Cooperation Award’ for the year 2020 to Dr. Atta-ur-Rahmanat the Great Peoples Hall in Beijing on January 7th, 2020.
The ‘China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award’ haspreviously been conferred upon different scientists, including NobleLaureates, for their remarkable contributions in the field of science.
To name a few, Dr. Carlo Rubbia (Nobel Prize in physics, 1984) and Dr.Zhores I. Alferov (Nobel Prize in physics, 2000) have had been awarded thehighest Chinese scientific award in the past.
Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman is a specialist in organic chemistry. He has served asthe Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) from 2002 to 2008 andMinister for Science and Technology from 2000 to 2002.
The government of Pakistan had awarded Tamgha- i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz,Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Nishan-i-Imtiaz to Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman in the past.
Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman has more than 1,250 international publications to hiscredit. He has authored 341 books as well.
In recognition of his contribution towards science, Malaysia and China havenamed research centers after Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman.
