Iran has refuted baseless allegations that implicated Tehran in HamasPalestinian group’s attacks on Israel.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson NaserKanaani, “The allegations related to Iran’s role are politicallymotivated.” Kanaani emphasized that “The Islamic Republic of Iran does notinterfere in the decision-making of any other country, includingPalestine.”
Hamas, an Iran-supported militant group in Gaza since 2007, launchedthousands of rockets at Israel, resulting in casualties on both sides. Asof now, more than 1,100 individuals have reportedly died, with Israelreporting 700 casualties and Palestinians confirming 430 deaths.
Iran is among the first countries to praise Hamas’s attacks. Iran’sgovernment has consistently supported the Palestinian cause in its foreignpolicy since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
Kanaani stated that Palestinians have the “necessary capacity anddetermination to defend their nation and secure their rights withoutTehran’s assistance.”
Furthermore, Kanaani clarified that discussing Iran’s role serves thepurpose of diverting public opinion from facts and presenting possiblefuture actions of Israel. The United Nations’ permanent mission of Iranalso discredited these allegations in a statement issued at night.
An American newspaper, The Wall Street Journal, reported that Iran’ssecurity officials assisted Hamas by helping plan the attack on Israel.Senior members of Iran’s backed political-military group, Hezbollah, inGaza and Lebanon, were referenced as well.
According to the report, “Iranian security officials provided support toHamas’s senior leaders in planning the sudden attack on Israel, and thegreen light for this attack was given during a meeting held in Beirut lastMonday.”
President Ibrahim Raisi voiced Iran’s support for Palestinian self-defenseon Sunday and warned that Israel should be held accountable fordestabilizing the region.
