The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to the Federal InvestigationAgency (FIA), former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Javaid, and formerDirector-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Faiz Hamid.
This action stems from a complaint filed by a concerned citizen who hassought the registration of an FIA case against both retired militaryofficers. The complaint alleges that Qamar Javaid and Faiz Hamid violatedthe law by engaging in activities and giving interviews that revealedsensitive information after their retirement, which they were legally boundnot to disclose.
It’s important to mention here that these former military officersespecially former COAS Qamar Bajwa was involved in giving series ofinterviews to the media indirectly through some journalists whereby theymade some startling revelations on the issues faced by country during theirtenure.
This legal move underscores the importance of upholding the law and theboundaries associated with retired military officials. In Pakistan, themilitary has traditionally held significant influence, and this casedemonstrates the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring accountability andadherence to legal obligations even for high-ranking former militarypersonnel.
